i have no idea about how a real solderpot works, but i want one. the problem is there price, so i am going to build one. here is my idea. can you tell me if this will work. thx.
-take a 3" round clay plant pot and cut it in half -drill lots of 1mm holes all over the pot in a spiral parern into the bottom half -now take the heater wire out of a toaster and weave it in and out of the holes, so it has a longer run between holes on the inside -put a metal cup into the pot. the cup is the kind that sits in a stove-top egg poaching pan. -take the top half and use it as a base for the element filled half. -house it all in a much bigger pot to protect the exposed element wire.
will this reach the right temp, before i burn down my workbench?
