1. If i were to get some graphite out of a lanturn battery, would it be dangerous to do so. 2. And where is the graphite in the battery?

I woudn't think it woud be dangerous. the graphite will be smack in the milddle. It will be a rod. And by reliable, I did mean they won't crrode or degrade.

Try using sodium hydroxide as an elecectrolyte. It will increase the conductivity of the water since it produces both cations and anions.

yeah carbon is good but if you can get your hands on some titanium or platinum scraps your in business I'd be careful putting anything in the water though NaOH isn't to bad the only adverse reaction is the production of sodium metal which immediately reacts with water to produce NaOH again and H2.
Suddenly I realize that I, like most of humanity, only know enough to be dangerous. |

So... once you people have all this H and O gas, what do you do with it? Stuff it in balloons and throw matches at them?

Hehe, that would be cool. But I now know from experience that you'll definatly put on ear muffs if you want to keep your hearing. Even a H2 bubble the size of a marble can give a big pop!

Any idea how you might be able to separate the hydrogen from the oxygen?

Yeah, put a split between the two electrodes, so the bubbles rise up to the right pipe.

Ah, I always wondered how that was done. Simple, yet effective. Cool.
