I've just changed my computer. Updated from XP to Win7 Pro.

I want to use my exixting XP programs, so I have downloaded the add-on for the XP-mode. I had no problem getting the programs to run.

I use a LAN (wired connection) to connect to the internet, but although the Win7 program works OK, I cannot connect to the net when using XP mode. The diagnostics panel tells me the firewall may be stopping it.

I haven't a clue how to start looking for the problem, so I'm looking for guidance.

Do an "ipconfig /all" in the virtual WinXP and make sure that you have a valid IP, gateway and DNS. You may need to configure networking in Virtual PC (or whatever they are calling it under Windows 7).

The problemm is now solved.

When trying to connect, the window that came up on the screen led me to believe that my computer could not be connected. In fact, it meant it was trying to get the default page provided by Windows (the home page of MSN) but it was not accessible. As soon as I asked for www.google.co.uk it connected straight away.

I have another problem with the conversion to Win7, but I'll make a new thread for that.
