Hi -

I am working on a project to convert a self-contained amplified MP3 player to use as a doorbell. I have almost solved most of the problems ie how to get it to turn off after a set period.

All I need to do now is work out how to get it to operate from a wireless doorbell switch instead of a conventional one. The switch would need to replicate the operation of a momentary-on doorbell switch if you see what I mean.

Does anyone know a good way to do this reliably? perhaps by hacking another wireless doorbell??

Thanks a lot.

Richard

Using another wireless doorbell would probably be the easiest way. Broadly speaking, the chime speaker could be removed and the signal used to trigger th e base of a transistor, which would trigger a 555 based timer which will operate as long as you wish your MP3 to play.
