Good day to you all, before i begin please dont get fed up of me as i always come up with funny threads. Its just that am intersted i new thins. The thing is that in my country a very mean inventor has come with a technology of making power from the latrine. The problem is that he is very mean with his technology but he says that its a mater of playing about with the chemical processes inside the pit latrine and using conductors of differnt materials and that way he gets the electricity. He further asserts that out of the 100% energy in the food we eat, 35% is only used by our bodies, 65% is wasted in form of excretion like in sweating, urine, feaces etc... So when this wasted energy is tapped from where we damp it, (toilet) we can get power. The whole conversion process is chemical not mechanical. Do you guys agree with him? If so please try to explain to me the chemical processes that lead to the formation of electricity from urine and feaces in the latrine. Sorry if this sis another funny thread. Thanks

Some little school kids make a weak battery from a lemon. Then why don't we power our homes, industry and street lights with lemons??
Don't you understand that to make plenty of electricity then you need plenty of energy like huge windmills or huge waterfalls or huge nuclear power plants. |

How about adding a turbine to the supply water pipe that fills the tank, and another to the soil stack that drains the bowl. Power every time you flush! |

Sounds sort of like he's claiming to have made a galvanic cell that can run off of human waste. If anyone were to ever design a fuel cell that could extract useful power from a slurry of extremely impure organic hydrocarbons, the world's energy problems would basically be solved. Unfortunately this does not exist :)
Sometimes, a small amount of energy can be recovered from sewage systems by burning the gasses that are given off by the bacterial decomposition. IIRC, urine used to be collected and chemically processed to make an ingredient for explosives. Neither of these are feasible for large scale energy production though. |

Except in the case of cow/pig farmers who use bioreactors to generate large amounts of methane, which is then burned for fuel. But that takes a huge pile of poop. |

I have seen it on the show "Dirty Jobs". They hose down all the crap from where the animals stay and you end up having a river of shit flowing down into a catchment which has a tarp over it to collect the gases. |

If the inventor has Patented the process you can read about it in the Patent.
