How does the update system in NT4 Server work? I installed SP6 with all post sp6 patches from microsoft, but now i went and installed dhcp server from the slipstreamed SP3 cd. Does this mean I have to re-install sp6 and all updates again to patch dhcp? |

Why don't you get with the times & use a Linux distro as a server? |

Lol you've got a good point. The reason is I need to run a few windows applications that aren't on linux, and secondly I suck at linux =D |

Learn it, like I am trying to do. I need to make a Home Theater PC soon and I'm probably gunna use Linux.
BTW, you might be able to use "WINE" to run your windows progs in Linux. |

It will probably be more stable to run Windows programs under NT4 then WINE. Then again, I am biased against Linux because I'm past the point in my life where I want to spend hours tweaking dependencies just to run a single application.
Once a service pack is applied in NT, the service pack will need to be reapplied after any system changes. It sucks, but at least the configuration of a server isn't changed very often.
Make sure to hit Windows Update for the Security Rollup Package as it takes care of all the issues found after SP6. Fully patched, NT is probably the most stable MS operating system. |

Being an Engineer I must keep learning new things. Linux has good reasons for its existence and it is used in small to very large systems. Learning the ins and outs of an operating system is critical for people like myself. Some people just don't have any real need for linux. The average user will just stick with windows and if they feel like tinkering, only then will they ever install a linux distro. I went with the flow, and the latter pattern is what occurred with me. |

I used to know how to use Ubuntu really well, then i got tired of it and didn't use it anymore. My laptop is my living room media center. Windows XP home. |
If you don't have the time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over? |
