Dear Mr.Aaron,
I built the car battery charger following the schematic on your site.Instead of the LM301 Op Amp i used LM741 Op Amp.With the LM301 the red led would not function properly,it wouldn;t light at all. It is said there : " When the battery is fully charged, the circuit switches off and lights a LED" . When i connect the battery,my red led is off at the beginning, but after a few mins it begins to light very fadely,as the battery charges, the led shines brighter.I guess this is a sign of the progressive charge of the battery, right? I'm asking you this because i expected the led to light suddently when the cycle has finished. Why am i asking this? Because i want to know if the following statement remains valid in the conditions described above:" The charger delivers full current until the current drawn by the battery falls to 150 mA. At this time, a lower voltage is applied to finish off and keep from over charging."
Please enlight me. Best wishes, Augustin

I don't think the 741 is a replacement for the 308.

Ok, so i'll try the 308 again. But how can the current from the charger stop if the schematic doesn't have a thyristor?

Now i figured out how the circuit works without a thyristor.LM308 analyses the voltage of the battery and the output of LM308,pin 6, sends the information to LM350 and commands the voltage sent to the battery
