I have this VCR and when I press play it starts playing right away, but it stop within 5 to 10 secoods each time. I check every thing and they all seems ok. Also is it possible that one of those very small chip is bad.
In my experience this is usually a mechanical problem. It's likely that one of the rubber tires (or belts in some old models) is worn and slipping. The tape is not being pulled at the right speed so the VCR stops playing to avoid jamming up the tape. Generally this is caused by a worn part in the pickup spool area.
Yes i believe that this is a mechanical problem. If you see that those rubber tires are shiny then probably they are slipping instead of gripping if you can't buy them yet then try to sand paper to roughten the shiny surface of the rubber tire usually it will still work but it still best to replace it.
I had my expirance with VCR'S. check the read (switch normally under the deck) if it is in time with everything, this switch sences where the arms that bring the tape out are, if it is not in time it is hell to get back in sync,
