I have 2 very powerful pneumatic, but for some reason they lack substantial range. Powerful at short distances but weak after aprox ~ 200ft. Main ammunition potatoes. Can break plywood at short range.
1st gun: 2 in diameter barrel 5 ft long, dual solenoid with 2 air chambers made from 2 in @ 6ft (inter connecting).
2nd gun: 1.5 in diameter rifled barrel 4ft long, single solenoid with 2 air chambers made from 2 in @ 5 ft (interconnecting).
just because you have high psi doesnt nessicarily mean more range. you want to be able to get all of the air in the chamber behind the spud as quickly as possible. using a valve with the same diameter as your chamber will alow you to get the most volume behind your spud
You could try on you next spud gun to make your compresion chamber atleast 1.5 in. larger then your barrel, and try to make your valve around the same size as your barrel. Even about an inch smaller would work. But using a reducer would speed up the velocity of the air entering the barrel. Also make sure the barrel is long enough, and you are pumping it to a high enough psi. I use from 80 to 120 psi. on mine.
