Here's the problem: my dad spends avrage of about 30$ a week on gasoline for his car. I told him it is possible to run a car alot cheeper on propane than on gas. He liked the idea, so I went ahead and started making a design . I started at the tanks, just 2 or three bbq grill tanks in the trunk for easy swapping, then a solenoid valve that is connected to the fuel pump wires but that is where I stop. I don't know if just using the existing carborator and a garrtson regulator, or buy a propane carbourator. the garretson method would be cheep, but not as efficnt as the propane carb, but i don't know where to get a propane carb. any ideas?

Still, those are very expensive. How much efficency would I loose if I just used the old gas port on the carb,or even replaced it with a new injector of my own?
I am going to try and modify my go-kart to run off propane. I will build a carborater out of a pip screwed into the intake with holes drilled in it near the gas nozzle. Just like this burner here, except I don't burn the gas, i just have the engine suck it in. http://www.backyardmetalcasting.com/oliverburner1.html

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE BBQ STYLE PROPANE FITTINGS IN AN AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATION. This includes regulators, tanks, hoses, etc. They are NOT designed to take an impact, and they are NOT certified for on-road use. Aside from being highly ilegal, you put yourself and everyone within a block of the vehicle in danger.
There are commercial propane conversion kits available. If you do a "backyard" conversion, not only will it be extremely dangerous (ever think of what happens when liquid propane gets in the engine?), but it will never pass safety and you won't even be able to drive the car.

thanx. I wouldn't want my dad to be driving a luxurious death machine near 80 mph.
i was only going to use the tanks, the rest woud consist of copper pipes, a garretson vacum regulator, and a small mod of the carb. I will probably buy ether a kit or all th parts sperately.
do you think that homade carb would work with a B&S 5hp engin?

Probably, but the fuel mixture would need constant tweaking.
