How did I make it? Well, that's a pretty broad question. I sat down with MS-DOS editor and Netscape 1.0 and wrote the HTML....Anything specific you want to know?
How much do I pay? I pay the standard fees for a 3MB pipe to my house. You will have to look up the cost for your area as it changes based on where you are.

I registered AARONCAKE.NET in 1996 (1997?) with the InterNIC. Nowadays, you can get domain names for $7.99 from places like RegisterFly. After that, you need to find someone to host the site. Many of the domain registrars offer hosting. I host my own site via two servers in my basement on a business cable line.
The remote is simply a little JavaScript. On each page, there is a small script to open a new window when a button is pressed. On the remote, there is a little scripting to change the address in the "opener" window. You can view the source of the pages to find out how this is done. The remote is due for an overhaul, because it is quite old and I have a LOT more functionality to add.
To learn HTML, I suggest picking up a good book or searching for "HTML tutorial" in Google. It is quite easy to learn.

Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a good book on HTML. It's pretty easy to learn, so once you get the syntax down, all you need is a simple chart of the tags.

if you want your own URL but you dont want to pay go to www.tk.com and register its comleatly free for instance my webpage is www.geocities.com/dabobdole but its a real goofy name and its annoying to type all of that stuff out so instead I use my .tk www.tiinc.tk
BTW I like your site, but if you want to jazz it up a bit try going to www.javiscripts.com its a huge library of codes for all types of stuff (if that one sucks try the javascript.com )

See other topic in "Computers". Something like "Network Server".
Yes, you can easily transfer files via a modem. Any terminal program will already have this built in.

if your trying to transfer files it may be easier to use a null modem connection with a paralell cable or if they both have usb you can use that, yet another method would be to use an eithernet corssover cable to
