My first suggestion is to search Google and find out what's available. There are many people who have done this before.

My second is to try a car alternator. It will be inefficient, but it will certainly work.

our science teacher lived on a farm when she was young, it was too far in the middle of nowhere to run power lines, so they had a windmill that would run all day and recharg a battery for the lights at nite. you could try doing a search on google for this. try ebay for the generator.

I would guess that a fairly large reduction in gears would be needed

The ultimate best place for alternate energy projects and stuff is www.otherpower.com. car alternators are a horrible solution for wind power.

A brushless motor can be reversed as a brusshless alternator.A miniature version of which is the capstan drive of an old VHS locate the 3 end wires of the stator coil this will be your 3phase output and solder 3 christmas bulbs in series and then solder each joint to each end wires .drive this motor with an electric drill..the bulbs should all light equally.now you have a micro alternator..drive it with wind?maybe..
