Hi All,

i want to design a digital fuel gague for my car.
pls mail me if u have any ideas.
also i tried measuring the out put voltage of fuel gauge output by pouring 4 liters of petrol but the voltage was constant at 3.5 volts.

pls send me the working of the fuel gauge, if its current or voltage based.

Thank you.

Most fuel senders are a variable resistor connected to the gauge at one end, and ground at the other. The resistance changes based on the fuel level in the tank (a float and a pot...). The other side of the gauge is connected to a reference voltage, usually slightly less then 12V or slightly less then 5V. So measuring at the gauge probably won't tell you anything.

A digital fuel gauge is just a voltmeter which replaces the stock gauge. Not hard to make, even cheaper to buy from any performance shop.
