I have seen heeps of diagrams on the internet showing me that you can get 2H and O out of plain water. Would this work? Or do I need distilled water? Salt is supposed to make the water conduct, but when you add salt it doesn't give out 2H and O. It gives out a very potent Chlorine smell, I don't want chlorine! I just want 2H and O, that is all I ask. Can someone help?

Then post a new topic. This string is called "Electrolyser".

I need a heartbeat monitor please

Ah, I always wondered how that was done. Simple, yet effective. Cool.

Yeah, put a split between the two electrodes, so the bubbles rise up to the right pipe.

Any idea how you might be able to separate the hydrogen from the oxygen?

Hehe, that would be cool. But I now know from experience that you'll definatly put on ear muffs if you want to keep your hearing. Even a H2 bubble the size of a marble can give a big pop!

So... once you people have all this H and O gas, what do you do with it? Stuff it in balloons and throw matches at them?

yeah carbon is good but if you can get your hands on some titanium or platinum scraps your in business I'd be careful putting anything in the water though NaOH isn't to bad the only adverse reaction is the production of sodium metal which immediately reacts with water to produce NaOH again and H2.

Suddenly I realize that I, like most of humanity, only know enough to be dangerous.

i use the graphite rods out of lantern batteries. you get four per battery. the work grate!! just sand off the battery crap and your good to go.

Try using sodium hydroxide as an elecectrolyte. It will increase the conductivity of the water since it produces both cations and anions.

I woudn't think it woud be dangerous. the graphite will be smack in the milddle. It will be a rod.
And by reliable, I did mean they won't crrode or degrade.

1. If i were to get some graphite out of a lanturn battery, would it be dangerous to do so.
2. And where is the graphite in the battery?

wasssup1990 Posted - Apr 17 2004 : 8:23:34 PM
So whats the throw back with graphite? You mentiond "reliable", does that mean it wont rust or corrode?

cirvin Posted - Apr 17 2004 : 3:37:43 PM
I would go with graphite. Its cheap, plentifull, and reliable.

So which type of electrode do you recommend? I've seen people on the net use graphite too, they got it out of lanturn battery.
