Random RX-7 Technical Info
Here's a quick list of random tech info that may help you when working on your RX-7. It is by no means complete, simply things that have come up as I have worked on the car.
- The oil cooler banjo bolts are 23MM
- Use only Mazda thermostats. Aftermarket thermostats may cause overheating
- Always run a thermostat. If you remove it, coolant will flow too quickly through the rad and severly reduce cooling
- Always replace factory spring type hose clamps with screw type hose clamps when working on the fuel or cooling system. The spring clamps loose their holding power after being removed a few times
- The thread size and pitch on the oil sender is 1/8 BSPT
- The thread size and pitch on the O2 sensor is 18mm x 1.50
- The TII fuel filter and NA fuel filter are the same
- All 2nd gen engine mounts are the same, except for the convertable. The 'vert has stiffer mounts that will bolt into any 2nd gen RX-7
- All 2nd gen fuel pumps can be replaced with the FD fuel pump for higher flow. It is a direct drop in
- The oil pressure regulator requirs a 28MM wrench/socket to remove
