For the first time I attended Forest City Cars and Coffee, visiting during the season opener for 2024. I had only learned of the event the previous autumn so figured I'd wait until the first of the season to show up. It had been years since I had attended any sort of local event and I wanted to see if I would recognize any local cars.

The turnout surprised me. The parking lot was already mostly full when I arrived in my RX-7. I hadn't even fully parked yet when someone ran up to my driver window and asked if my popups work. Dumbfounded I just stared at her for a few seconds before flipping the lights up. Very strange. I guess this is some sort of in-joke amongst the regular attendees? I sort of made sense once I learned she owned the red Fiero with only one working popup light.

I think I only recognized one or two of the vehicles. Now London isn't small city, but it isn't exactly huge and I spend a lot of time on the road. Not sure what to think about that. Perhaps people just don't drive their cars?

It was unexpected to run into some other rotary owners. Mainly because the frequency I see other rotary vehicles around town is approximately never. Had some decent conversations and learned that there are several rotary projects being built in the area.

All in all, a decent event and a good day hanging around. I don't think I'll be a regular attendee but may drop in for the season openers and closers. The only thing I didn't like, and the major reason I won't regularly attend, was the behaviour of those arriving and departing the show. Burnouts, sliding and speeding down a residential street is not appropriate behaviour and a sure way for an event to get shut down. I don't want to be associated with that.
