I'm updating a portable shuffle board this week. Been wiring 12v LED's lighting system in the support structure and almost done with it. Now I want to add a point counter in a tree form. Having five yellow on the bottom and blue/red (4 each) above. Scoring would go like this, yellow in one digit increments, blue/red would light up for the 5 digits increments. Maybe all LED's flash when 21 is reached . My question is how to make this work. It needs an up/down and a reset buttons. I look at the shuffle board counter wiring diagrams, but this is a little different. Any help would be great, it has been long time since I worked with electronics. Been asking in different forums about this trying to get some help.

Microcontroller of your choice that is easy to program in a language you are familiar with (ie. BasicSTAMP, Arduino, etc.). Perform all your logic in software as opposed to a board with 25 CMOS counters and gates.
