Awesome work. Just remember that you can always use a strip of lexan or acrylic to protect the solar panel. I did that with a panel that kept getting smashed on my boat and it worked out pretty good.
I love solar power\heating devices, I only wish the rest of the world would adapt quickly to the solar invasion. Check this out, I want to create one of these for my garage and shed, looks simple enough.

Hey Aaron, when you get a sec bud, can you let me know if you do work on other peoples RX's? I am obviously willing to pay you for your time and effort. I have a 1990 non turbo that is pretty close to being done. She was painted two years ago and after watching your Cosmo videos, I am motivated to pull the carpet, clean up the floor panels and POR15 or rust paint it before laying down brand new carpet. I also want to tune it since she has been sitting for about two years. Outside of that, I installed two new doors with power windows and locks that I also need to wire up. Is this an idea you would entertain? |

I am feeling generous. Here is the schematic. I don't do this very often.

Totally awesome! This schematic goes into my 'elite' image repository. Where do you source your electronics supplies? Local shop or do you go online? I like how you designed two power modes without any actual resistance circuitry, so simple yet bang on with functionality. |

I primarily source my supplies from element14. Sometimes I might go to a local Jaycar store. For big and expensive projects I might order from Digikey with their huge product range because then I can justify their $30 shipping cost. |

I think this might be in the interest of most people here.
Tomorrow I will attending a "Defensive Driving Program". I am not required to do this program by law but I'm doing it to enhance my skills.
I will be driving the Subaru Forester 2011.
Here is a video showing the kind of things I will be doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P21lwEYY-D0&feature=context&context=G2cbaa58RVAAAAAAAABA |

I don't do work on other people's cars. In the past I have and it has been a huge hassle whenever I've done this. Also, I just don't have the time. My own projects keep me quite busy.

That's awesome! I wish more people would take the responsibility of enrolling in courses like this. Rather, it should be mandatory. Especially in Canada where we have between 4 and 6 months of snow, there should be a winter driving course. Yet there are no specific requirements or training for winter driving. |

Snow? Hell, we don't get any here unless you go up a mountain and it's the right time of the year.
I just got back. It was a great experience. Clearly the Forester outperformed the other cars that were there when it comes to braking and control.
Performance aside, the day started at 8:30 and finished at 4:30. Emergency stopping, Chicanes and Obstacle avoidance were the main practical exercises. The day was also filled with theory lessons.
It would be great if all drivers experienced what I did today. |

Hey Aaron, thanks for the FYI...I totally respect that. I'll just have to flex to get'r done. At least I have your website as a great resource and I will certainly pic your brain about aftermarket carpets.
Wassup, wassup? That sounds really cool....did you snag some pics by any chance? Were there any scantily clan women with large breasts on the scene? What other vehicle choices were there? |

The course was held at a raceway. I only got a chance to take pics from the grand-stand before we all started the program. The pics don't depict the program in any way. For privacy reasons I was not allowed to use a camera device once we were doing the practical exercises.

No, thankfully. Too distracting.

Everyone had to bring their own car.
I suppose I could at least post a picture of the place.

The temperature was 35C and there was lots of sun. Not exactly desirable weather for it. |

Well that tears it, flying on a wing suit and base jumping with a puppy are now on my list of things to do before I die.
On another, more or less luminescent note, I ordered some Europium glow paint from United Nuclear and tried to make glow in the dark clothes. Bought a pair of white jeans and a nice white shirt. However as soon as I opened the paint it was fairly obvious that it wouldn't work. It wasn't so much "paint" as it was "paste". Like an Elmer's glue type stuff, but gritty from the glow powder. Figuring I'd try anyway, I thinned it out with water (there were no instructions but I figured out it was water based) until it would spray, then loaded it into my little spray gun and started blasting a shirt. Coverage was terrible and I used 90% of the 4oz bottle (heavily cut with water) to get only a moderate coverage on the shirt, so I gave up after the gun clogged for the 3rd time. The paste was very gritty and the grit was clogging it up. What I ended up with was a vaguely glowing shirt, that obviously had the potential to be very cool, but would require a LOT more paint (maybe 5 bottles?) to be awesome. So I washed it out when I got home, and fired off an angry email to United Nuclear about the fact they should make it clear on their website that their glow paint isn't really paint, but in fact "gritty glow paste".
To their credit they got back to me quickly and explained that it was more of an artists paint, and not something that can be thinned and sprayed. I agreed and said that being the case, they should still include a note on their website so that others won't make the same mistake.
Now I won't let the dream of glow clothes die. I'm fairly sure that with a few bottles of the stuff, diluted just enough with water to soak clothes, that I could make glow clothes. But a better option may be to buy some of their Europium glow powder and then figure out some kind of binder to mix it with, so that I could dip clothes. Maybe all it would take is gelatin? Who knows... |

I was so busy with college and work that I completely forgot your birthday, among other things like getting my tabs renewed (guess who reminded me). I bet you're so hurt. I hope it was a good one.
I've heard of people mixing the glow powder with hair gel and coming out with a cool result. I've even thought of trying it myself. Maybe if you soaked the clothes in the diluted paint/paste it might work somewhat.
That raceway looks fun. Nothing like what we have up here. But then again, it seems no one likes real racing anymore. |
