Hi every1

I am designing av device that I can use in my vehicles. One of them is 12V and the other one is a truck with 24 volts.

What I need:
some tips on how to design a switching power supply so I can add 10-30V in, and it must give 12V dc stable out at max 4 amps. Anyone who can give me a lead on this?

Some quick Googling turned up the MAX742 IC. Also, there are little DC-DC modules made to be soldered to circuit boards made by a number of manufacturers. I always see them advertised in the magazine "Mobile Design", so maybe check their website.
