Hi, i need to swith on or off a 120VAC lights with a 12VDC, 60 to 800mA. I think i could do this with a relay but i'm not shure. I guess so i need a diode to protect the relay. Can you guys help me? If it's possible, can you send me a diagram?
Thanks

You need a relay and a diode across its coil connected in the correct direction.

yes it can be done as you think just be sure you buy the correct rated relay and be sure the relay is an AC relay

What is an AC relay?
The load and contacts use AC but the coil uses DC.

I think he means a relay with appropriate contact ratings to handle the higher voltage AC instead of, say, a 12V automotive relay.

Try to look at this picture. .

This uses a 24 volt DC supply and your using 12V. You just replace the 24 volt to 12 V. This would be a reference for you. Hope this helps. For more information, you can search google for transistor switch circuits.
