Hello All,

A little buildup here. After some garage cleaning I have a handful of old pc crt's. They are/were all working, but are obsolete. I want to harvest the pcbs for parts like caps, coils etc, but i need to make sure they are all "discharged". I know I need a HV Probe to do this. I have checked ebay and such, used ones are shady in "AS-IS" condition, some had leads "chewed" off and new ones can run upwards of $200. Is there not a way to build one. I cant imagine the probe consisting of more than a few dollars in parts.

Thx,
Dan

Just use a jumper cable and a 1M resistor to short the terminals of any device you suspect as being charged. Honestly, I've never been zapped by any old CRT equipment and I don't take any precautions.
