Does anyone know if it works in the recent express versions. I'm trying to get it working as an alternative to Turing (I don't like it very much) and I couldn't get it working. There was an error accessing the port last time, I'll try to get the exact error message. I know I did it exactly right, I'm just trying to figure out if our version is compatible. I can use either 2005/2008 express editions, those are the GUI's I have used. Thanks!

FYI refer to Visual Studio as a IDE not a GUI. It's a more informative description.

Good luck with Turing. I believe it's a sub field of Artificial Intelligence which is a sub field of Computer Science.

Parallel ports are an obsolete technology. I only used them in the old VB6 and QuickBASIC. RS232 is still handy and you should use that since it's still very much supported these days and I have had no problems getting old Win98/WinXP programs to use it on the latest WinVista/Win7. If you're up for it try advancing to USB.

inpout32 works well with VB.net, I've used it many times before.

I might have used that once but the "32" at the end is a problem for me these days unless there is a 64-bit variant. It doesn't matter anyway. Parallel ports were the early days for me, now they're dead to me. The stuff I'm experimenting with now requires huge amounts of data throughput and heaps of processing power which no parallel port or PIC chip can provide.
