If you don't want an update on my life story because you probably don't know me, you can just skip this next part. I haven't been on these board in a loong time, with school and work I hadn't had much time to screw around anymore, last thing I successfully built was a solar panel array with a solar tracker which followed the sun for my girlfriends physics project, to my surprise it turned out to be quite efficient. So now I moved from Quebec to Banff, Alberta, or I should say Canmore because I spent 2 months and all of my money in Banff trying to find a job and a place to live with no luck, however the parties and people I met where worthwhile and Canmore's just 20kms away.
Enough with that, back to the business at hand. After a whole week of researching these midi DJ consoles I decided on the Numark Omni Control because of the lower price, good features and pretty rugged housing. If I wasn't a newbie in the mixing business or I had large amounts of money to spend I would've gotten the NS7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q_FpuDxLlo which has motorized wheels which seem pretty freaking amazing.
So I'm planning on taking the Omni apart(Thinkin about it even before receiving it..) and figuring out a way to build some real spinning platters in order to facilitate scratching. I'm thinking either buying some old turntables and fitting them with sensors similar to whatever I'm gonna find inside the omni, the belt driven turntables might be kinda sloppy so I'm thinking of building the platters myself including a motor and a sensor.
I'll post any developments in the project, I'm not sure on the feasibility right now and how much money I'll need for it... Someone has built a midi controller completely from scratch. http://mte.bplaced.net/Hardware-Projects/Traktorizer-Page/Traktorizer-Functions-Overview.htm So I'm thinking of using his model of the jog wheels. I'll need a midi interface... |
