I’m having trouble updating this site. Each time I enter it from the shortcut on my desktop I get the opening page. The entries shown are not the latest although the little square box is coloured magenta, indicating that there is a new posting.
If I key F5 to update the page I get a more up-to-date display but it still shows the magenta square. I select the section I want, like Power Supplies, and the same thing happens, ie. the page is out of date and recent postings are not shown. If I then key F5 again I get the latest new postings. I now need to use the F5 key each time I go into a new section and again each time I look at a specific thread, and it’s getting a downright nuisance.
I just checked the Sound/Radio section and it shows the last entry as coming from Louisk2. I go into that section and there are 4 threads, but none of them bears the name of Louisk2. I hit F5 and up comes an old thread of his where the last post is from audioguru today. Although I have already read the post, the square is still in magenta showing it as a ‘New post since last log-on”.
So the magenta squares are now meaningless – in one instance they are showing a new posting on a thread where the last entry was in November! This is the only site where this happens and it only started malfunctioning recently.
Aaron tells me that he has tested the site with his browsers and can find no fault with the page updating and suggests the fault may be in my browser cache. I am using MS Internet Explorer and have gone through the settings to try to find the fault – without success.
Any help that anyone can give to get this problem sorted will be gratefully received.

Thanks for the recommendation, jnewman
We visited relatives over the holidays and I had an opportunity to access this site with their computer. I had no problems with it. As far as I could see their Internet Explorer was set up with the same options as mine, but I think they were running ver6 whereas I was using ver7. I had upgraded because when I made a folder on the desktop to put shortcuts in, I was losing icons. Ver7 was an improvement but I still lost many icons.
So I decided to change to Firefox. All now appears to be working OK and it shows ALL the missing icons. It seems to access web sites faster than IE and its plugins seem quite useful.
It looks like a case of the opposition being better than Microsoft, once again.

We've been emailing back and forth over the last few days and after the basic checks (delete cookies, cache, etc.) only half worked I kind of ran out of ideas. I think it's a cache issue and deleting all of the cache and cookies would help, but that will also clear all other cookies for other sites and thus would be a bit of a pain. |
