My bro-in-law got an air horn that has a 24VDC solenoid for the actuation. His diesel truck has TWO 12V batteries but they are connected in parallel for use by the truck for starting, etc. The solenoid requires right at 1 A @ 24VDC.

Would it be possible to connect another small set of wires in series on the batteries to get 24VDC for the solenoid?

I wouldn't think so, but I did not know if you used diodes if that would allow it to work.

If not would you have to use a 12VDC -> 24VDC transformer?

It would be far easier to just use a 12V relay instead of the 24V unit that came with the horns.

There is no such thing as a DC transformer.

The relay in integrated inside the horn and there is no access to it.

Is it possible to connect the 2 batteries in serial AND parallel with two sets of wires?

With a whole bunch of diodes it could be done, but it would then make it impossible to charge the batteries.

Try it on 12V though. It may work.
