hi, does anybody know how i could interface a pc with can bus. i only want to listen to the bus. i have written IC2 to parralell port programs before. but i cant seam find much about can-bus on the net.
as i understand it theres can-hi and can-lo they are two wires with a 120ohm resistor terminating each side of the bus.
im thinking an opamp may be useful?

Its a litle bit more complicated than that. A sniffer for any bus needs to understand the protocol and to use the stack, otherwise will collect some bizare noises with no meaning. Here is an app note that can help you to start http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/AppNotes/00945a.pdf
I have found a bluetooth, can bus adapter on ebay.($130) i am tring to reuse my standard stearing wheel controls for my car pc. there were connected o the sterio via a can bus can-hi and can-lo. i am unsure if they will be connected to the ecu and/or be on the same bus as the other components like the throttle position sensor ect.
