Hello guys, my name is Steve. I have limited experence with electronics. I got my Ham technition licence as a kid, but stopped using it a couple years ago, and now I forgot everything.

Nevertheless,

I bought a beeter Saab, and now I'm trying to find some simple things to do to it. The high beam controller sounds neat, and could be fun to play with.

A couple questions though..

Why 2 reays? With my limited understanding I see the SPST relay is just a switch for the SPDT relay. Why have this? Why even have this circuit deal with the low beams at all?

Also, the only resister I could find is a 5.1K ohm 1/4 watt, will this work?

The only thing I could find to use as the "eye" for the circuit is something called a resistive photo sensor.

I just tried building this. I did it twice because I messed up the first time.

I come to find that it won't trip any relays. I tested the voltage on the connection from the transistor when the connection to the phototransister was grounded, and when it was open. I find that I get about 80 miliolts when connected and about 90 milivolts when disconnected. I don't understand? This can't trip my relay? Why is it backwards?

Now I understand why there are two relays though. Can someone show me an example of a low current relay?
