Hi all,im a newbie in building circuit. i was browsing the website and i found an interesting circuit in http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/charger1.asp and i decided to build it.
I followed the steps as follow and the placement of the circuit. However as some components could not be found in my area, i had to use other components to replace it.
They are... 230ohm -> 220ohm
0.2ohm 10W resis -> 0.25ohm 10W resis
Its basically about +/- 10% of the original value.
Also, as i could not find the fledge switch, i used a wire to shorted the no.1 to ground(instead of switch).
However, i met with a problem. When i on the circuit( a 18V power supply trying to charge a YUASA 12V Lead Acid Battery [http://www.atbatt.com/product/8423.asp] that only has 10V atm) the current i got was only 5mA . From what i learnt, it is impossible to charge up anything with 5mA, the V would have leaked out even if it is able to charge.(should be a higher A by right as the note say it will fall to 150mA after its fully charged).
Next, i replaced the YUASA battery by another power supply that is 12V to act as a fully charged battery. This time, the LED did not light up.
Does anyone know where i might have gone wrong in the circuit?
The circuit is not shorted, everything is connected properly(i think?).
Might it be due to the spoilage of any of my components? |

| I build this circuit, but it outputs only 0.24 A current. Also the LED remains always ON. When battery is connected, intensity of LED decreases, but it remains ON. I tried to charge two discharged battery one by one but results are same. |

If the LED is lit, current output should be very low. So it's not just an issue with the op-amp.
Is Q1 or D1 backwards?
Honestly the circuit is not a very good one.

| Thanks Mr. Aaron for ur reply. Yes, the diode was backward. Now the ckt works ok, LED lit when no battery, and it goes off when battery is connected. But Still current supplied is 0.24amps when led not lit and 0.15amps when led lit. Pls help me to solve dis problem cause I hav spend same money for dis ckt as of which I can buy a ready made charger. Thanks once again. |
