I have a panasonic PV-GS39 camcorder. It was plugged into the DC power adapter, which at the time was running off of a power inverter in a car (square wave) The camcorder did not power on and is now completely dead. I have not had a camcorder apart yet, but I have diagnosed/repaired othere electric devices, so I can at least get in and look around and fix the obvious problems. I am hoping for ideas from this group to help get me started in the right direction. I would suspect/hope there was some kind of protection built in similar to a fuse that I just need to find and replace. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

I know some SMPS don't like squarewave, maybe you have damaged the power supply somehow.
Does it work on the battery?

What a great idea. I just assumed that the power supply was working because it would give the green light when I went to charge the battery. I will check it tonight. Since the battery was already dead, if it was not charging and the PS is fried, then hopefully I was mistaken about it being a problem with the camcorder at all!
Thanks for the help. I will follow up after I check this out.

If the green light turns on when the charger in pluged in the chances are is that the charger is working, (assuming the light indicates power on for the charger) unless the battery is discharging into the power supply, I doubt it.

Well, I checked the power supply and it is not putting out anything out of the DC output cord or the batter charging cradle that is built in. My hopes were dashed though when I used a power supply from another camera and still nothing out of the camera. So i guess both are fried. I am not going to delve into pulling the camera apart after talking to panasonic. the parts are still covered under warrenty and they say there is a chance that the labor will be covered also.
THanks for the help!
