When the marbles got to the bottom of the ramp, how did they get back into the hopper? |

they hit the belt in some sort of way so that it moved or something and when they kept going it kept moving. the top part regulated the speed so that the #of marbles that fell would always be consistent. |

'Hit the belt' = energy expended, so it's not perpetual motion. |

Well it worked lol "the magic of the vortex" and the energy is transfered into the moving belt which restarts the proccess thus the perpetual motion. |

In all but perfectly elastic collisions, which don't exist in the macroscopic world, kinetic energy is not conserved.
Build the machine and see if it works. It might run for a minute, but it will run out of marbles at the top and will stop. |

It doesnt all need to be conserved. It just needs enough to get the thing going. Honestly i dont even know how the belt works trying to figure i out while arguing :) |

It takes the same amount of energy to raise up a single marble as a single marble falls from the top. if the falling marble looses energy, it will not have enough to raise one marble back to the top. It will take more than one marble to do it and your reservoir of marbles at the top will be exhausted because it looses marbles faster than they can be replenished. The reservoir will only stay full if each falling marble can move the belt enough to replace it in the queue. |

The site could just be some theory he made up in his little head because #1 theres no actual visual proof and #2 he vaguely explains how it works and he took less than a minute to make the picture.
On the other hand there were 8 marbles and it took 4 marbles to raise one marble to the top i believe, maybe this was enough for this little contraption |

Yeah I was wondering about that... Energy up would equal energy down... Its two vectors going in opposite directions = no energy. Once again I say if we lived in a perfect world there would be no losses! Damn physics!
I really liked that one link that binary gave though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_motion
The bowel siphon thing! If only it would work!

pebe, I forgot to add this to the previous post, What I want is to discharge a capacitor suddenly through a coil this causing a iron projectile inside the coil to move... somehow. The 1.7ohms is the resistance if the coil.
