I need a circuit that can be added to a factory VW dome light that will gradually dim the interior light after the door is closed. Any ideas? BTW, I have minimal electronics experience.Thanks.

The easiest would probably be an R/C network connected to a transistor which then drives the bulb. Set up a simple resistor/capacitor network (see Google for info) and connect to the base of a transistor through a low value resistor (1K is always a good choice). The transistor then is in series with the bulb. The R/C network gets connected to the signal that activates the light when the doors are open (+12V) and the bulb to constant +12V. By varying the R/C values you can change the on and dim time.
