Me and a friend are thinking about turning an old riding mower into a racing mower. Chances are it won't be raced in an actual race since that isn't around here, but I had 2 questions.

1.) How would you add a acclerator for throttle control (AKA gas pedal)? I'm guess a return spring would have to be added to the engine's throttle control.

2.) Would the onboard alternator (12 volt?) have enough power to also run a 6.75" 2A 12V Comair-Rotron fan to cool the engine?

The throttle control is easy. Just make or salvage a pedal assembly (from a small car like the Geo Metro) and connect the cable to the appropriate point on the engine. As you guessed, you will need to fabricate a bracket on the engine with a thicker return spring.

As for the alternator, it depends. I don't know what the ratings for the stock unit are but they are probably enough. If not, you can upgrade or just use a larger battery. The battery will supply the current while the cooling fan is on but then get recharged when it's not.
