At my vocational school today

a student brought in an old but working microwave
I had sooooooo much fun with it

a standard 60 watt light bulb found its way into the microwave and it was in there for 11 seconds.

As the class watched
the bulb began to change pinks, purples, then blue/green

it was great fun

then, somone said to put it in for 20 seconds, so i did

and so what happned, well after the 11 second light show, the bulb exploded into many pieces

good times, good good times

but why does a light bulb glow different colors if there is no gas or air or anything in it?

what makes the nice glowing colors?

its an electrical class
you got to have fun with a microwave some time LOL

one think I recomend is taking a grape and cutting it in half. place the halfs close to each other in the microwave with the flat sides up.....the microwaves cause a difference in potentials between the two halfs and sparks will arc between them.

Plasma. You can get the same effect if you connect a lighbulb to a Tesla Coil or other HV source. Very cool.

lol

try putting some copper in there

it will arc to the top of the box if you leave a 2" gap there

then the wire burns and gets hot and must be replaced
