Posted - Nov 14 2010 : 02:26:49 AM Yes the engine produced sprite based enemies and other objects in the game but the game was still fun. I think Dukes character was a huge reason why the game did well, along with the babes and frequent humor throughout. The music was great too. When I played Quake 2 all those years ago I actually only had the demo so there was no music. Eventually I bought the game for $2 and I preferred the music off.
I actually have Duke3D music on my iPhone but not the original music (MIDI). I have the PS1 versions of all the music.
There are many versions of the theme song but the one I heard when I played the game was this one. It was a real mood changer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v5tkJuJ368
Then I found this on 3DRealms website many years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFWGOclGXhE
EDIT: LOL! I just found this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jBKKV2V8eU&NR=1&feature=fvwp

Posted - Nov 13 2010 : 10:48:18 AM I never thought much of Duke Nukem 3D. It was too cartoonish, especially when games of the time like Quake and Descent seemed to have superior engines. |

Posted - Nov 12 2010 : 10:08:19 AM Oh yeah this game will be released for the XBOX, PS3 and PC of course. It's gonna be good one I think.
Back in the day it was just me on my computer playing Duke3D, unaware of how big this game was becoming and how many other people were playing it.
Did you know, 3DRealms actually were developing their own game engine called the "Duke Engine" before they closed down? That's impressive. They didn't use someone else engine! Gearbox software bought the game and are now polishing it up for release next year. |
