I could have sworn I created a thread about my physics simulator. I tried your search feature with 'physics' for a keyword and I search 'all forums' and 'entire message' and I got absolutely nothing. |

For corporate style and server backups, tapes are still the best solution. After the initial purchase of the drive, the cost of operation is very low and media is very cheap per gigabyte. And if you need more capacity, just buy more tapes.
External hard drives are fine for a home backup but unsuitable for anything else. Assuming a 5 day weekly rotation, a customer would have to purchase 5 external hard drives at the cost of about $150 each. Instead, spend a little more on a tape drive and not be limited to only a 5 day rotation or a high cost when you need more "media". Tapes are also more robust, easier to store, last damn near forever and are more "future proof" then other media.
I'm not sure who Dell buys their tape drives from. In the past I have found HP drives to be very hit and miss. These days they are decent. Sony has been pretty good as well. IBM drives are usually Archive drives which are very high quality. Quantum makes nice drives, as does Tanburg data.
It's important to keep a tape drive clean otherwise it will die quickly and end up eating tapes. |

Lol my work still uses tapes. They have all sorts of problems. The tape drive in a Dell server keeps breaking and has been replaced numerous times. I've been trying to persuade the boss to ditch tapes, and buy a bunch of external hard disks to replace them. That way they don't have to buy new tapes every half a year or so |

I'll see what I can do, but I already searched the DB via keyword. My guess is that when I repaired the DB after restoring from backup a few weeks ago, a few records were lost. I don't know if I have any older backups since I don't have any tapes with backups older then 7 weeks. I think I will go to a 10 week rotation. I have enough tapes. |

Maybe you can run a keyword search through all topic IDs?

I can't find it via the search either but could find it if I knew the topic ID which would be in the URL.
