My mother recently bought a new computer. The new comp has MS Office loaded on it, which includes Outlook. She used Outlook Express on her old comp and I am having trouble migrating her old messages over to the new comp. Her contacts were no problem, but when I try to export her messages, I get an error message saying that it can't initialize MAPI.

Does anyone know either how to fix this, or know of some third party software that can extract messages from Outlook Express and make them available for Outlook?

nah, i used express and upgraded to outlook and i dont have a exchange server running.

but i did have trouble importing messages.

if that dosent work, maybe u can send them again on the express, then recieve them in outlook , if there is not many.

Outlook does not require Exchange.

Outlook Express can export to PST, and in theory Outlook can import the IDX/DBX files from Outlook Express. This is best done during install, because it doesn't always work afterwards.

Last I knew, in order to use Outlook you need to be connected to a MS Exchange Server. It functions fundamentally different than Outlook Express.

Export the express (use file->export) .pst files to a cd then u must copy them to the hard drive(drag and drop)( as the file needs to be writeable to copy. if u dont then u get an error. ) then use file->import on outlook and it will work.

Outlook has this functionality built in. What is the EXACT error, and have you tried searching it in the MS Knowledgebase.

You can also try exporting the messages from Outlook Express to Outlook.
