Posted - Jun 13 2010 : 11:13:15 PM here are my questions.
I have an aem ems. full standalone, should be able to do anything i need including timing, fuel delivery, knock detection ect. also will have 3 inch exhaust, no cats, straight pipe. v mount inter cooler.
is 400 hp attainable on an s5 6 port? if so i presume its also attainable on the s4.
how about 450? that is my ultimate goal. i understand that it can be done, but can it be done reliably.
can i run a gt35r?
can i use 93octane, or will i need to switch to e85. although i'd love to go e85, its simply not feasible given the limited supply in my area.
will 850cc primaries and 1600cc secondaries get me there?
am i asking for a blown engine? |

Posted - Jun 29 2010 : 09:11:34 AM I would still recommend to stay away from the S5 NA block unless you are planning to run lower compression rotors. Not only is the compression higher, but the rotors have thinner faces. Most people who put together S5 NA based turbo-NA cars end up going through a few engines and then giving up. A few have success but in the long term, who knows.
If you want to make 450HP, then you need to keep the boost LOW so you are looking at a turbo such as the GT40R, TO4R, T70 (though that is a lag monster), etc. If you size your turbo to make those power levels under 15 PSI then it should be basically reliable. Basically...
Using the wrong engine because you got a good deal on it just seems to me like it will cost you far more in the long run.
If you are going to port, and are running a turbo that big, then don't bother with street ports. The lag will be unacceptable and the NA block already has MASSIVE port area. A bridgeport will greatly improve turbo spool but will kill fuel mileage and make the car much harder to tune. |

Posted - Jun 28 2010 : 10:45:53 PM ok, well for my peak numbers i can run a separate tune for e85, with a lower daily number to be run on 93 octane. the motor WILL be an s5 as i just got a good deal on one, and it will be either bridgeported or aggressively street ported. i've done more research and realized that a gt35 isn't going to get me where i want, so i'm looking at other options. thank you for replying. |

Posted - Jun 22 2010 : 09:32:46 AM In my opinion, the S5 NA rotors are too high in compression to make this reliable. Most of the S5 NA turbo builds I have heard of don't last very long, though a few are still going strong. I don't think it's worth going past the 9.4:1 compression of the S4 NA rotors.
You won't be able to reach 400HP on a GT35R on an NA S5 block and be reliable on pump gas. Certainly not 450 HP (around 20 PSI). Perhaps on E85, or with meth injection. |
