Posted - Jun 21 2005 : 7:21:55 PM I am looking at reman'd turbos on ebay. I've called up garret, turbonetics, hks, they all ask what kind of power I'm looking to make, this and that, and how much boost.
Aaron, could you possibly tell me a good T3 to use on this? No one can give me some good numbers for compressor/turbine.
I found a T04E with a .50 / .70 for like 175 remanned, but will that flow enough, or boost too little or much, too little or too much lag?
I was hopeing you could throw me some numbers to look for to keep it a safe daily driver. 260hp too much to ask from the NA?

What boost levels do you think I could pull on the stock turbo if I kept running with my stock 450cc injectors?
3 to 4 PSI safely. Not worth it at all.

Have you looked at:

Locations of all the major and minor components can be found in the Haynes and factory service manuals.
Air pump supplies fresh air to the exhaust manifold and cats for emissions purposes. On the S5, it also opens the 5th/6th ports and actuates the VDI.
It goes without saying that if you have to ask these questions, you SHOULD NOT be attempting to bolt a turbocharger to your NA block. Especially if your car is a daily driver. You have been warned. When you blow your engine, it's not my fault.

Posted - Jun 24 2005 : 2:13:09 PM Aaron, if you got the time, you think you could snap some shots, and point out what needs to be done and where it's located?
I'm extremely new to the wankels, I dont want to chance it by making guesses. I'll post a couple images of my block.
The air pump doesnt really serve a purpose on the NA? just creates backpressure right?

dont see it there.. you think i will loose top end power with this turbo??
I don't think it will be ideal, but it should work. You may find that it becomes a restriction on the top end, but for the power you are making, it shouldn't be any worse then the stock turbo. With the high compression rotors, you can spool some truly larger turbines. I think you've made a decent choice, that should work fine.
As for the stock turbo specs, just search for "stock compressor map" or variations. I would right now, but I'm crunched for time.
quote:
1. Is it a T3 or T4.
Yes. The stocker shares come characteristics of both. It's really comparable to a largish T3, but remember that the exhaust flange is custom for Mazda.
quote:
2. If I decide to tap the oil feed and the oil return, can you tell me the tap size (NPT).
For the feed, it depends on what you tap. For the return, if you tap the oil pan or front cover, go with 1/2 NPT.
quote:
3. Which oil feed line is better: -3 or -4
-6. -3 is very small, and -4 is just smaller then the ID of the stock feed pipe.
quote:
4. For oil return, -10 or -12
Either one, though -12 is better then -10.

Thanks. Your replies are greatly appreciated since Im still gathering all the parts and making plan. cool site btw.

It will work, but it's still kind of small. There's no reason you can't have an exhaust side of .90 or higher, to about 1.0.
Compare the specs of the turbo you have with the stock unit (check FAQ in 2nd gen forum at http://www.rx7club.com ).

What engine is it, what rpm does it rev to, are you planning to run an intercooler and what boost do you want to run?
Obviously, this is a 6 port 13B rotary. Presumably from the S4 or S5 RX-7.

If you want to use a T3 style turbo, then stick with the stocker or something close to it.

Turbine side is WAY too small.

For that kind of power, might as well just use the stock turbo or one of the hybrids. Try to find an S5 turbo.
