Posted - Jun 06 2010 : 3:47:29 PM Hey man, so since you're the super genius I have a strange problem and need a little help. The car runs great, but I have hot start problems. I went ahead and checked compression, replaced the plugs, oil, and filter. The weird thing is that it fires right up, runs great and as soon as i turn it off, it won't turn over. The strange thing, is that I can push start it when it's hot and it starts right up. I thought maybe the starter was bad, but that wouldn't let it start cold. I checked to see that the starter lined up, and the bolts were stripped out, so we re-tapped them and the problem still exists. Any ideas?

Yep, with the dashpot removed the stock ECU and BAC can't compensate fast enough for a falling throttle. Oddly, a standalone can manage this just fine using the BAC to emulate the dashpot function. |

Posted - Sep 16 2012 : 09:47:17 AM Hey AC ..your famous !! your 30 seconds of fame in a hemmings article : http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2009/12/01/hmn_buyers_guide1.html
My car is still running great with only the fuel rail line pressure issue to deal with, I also removed the dashpot on the TB and noticed a tendency for the engine to stall so I will put it back on , did this because my brazed ( pressure regulator removed for a copper pipe cap )stock fuel rail sprung a leak !! and it was a bitch to get to with the dashpot just above it. |

Posted - Jul 02 2012 : 09:38:44 AM Hey AC ..well it finally let me down on the Florida turnpike crusing at 80 mph. the fuse blew again , but this time it was not accepting a new fuse without blowing. So I had it towed and I went through the hole fuel system diagnostic only to find everything within spec. So I came to the conclusion I had a short circuit and starting disconnecting one thing at a time , fuel relay ,fuel pump, resistor relay, alternator etc .. while a new fuse was in to see what happens. Thats where I got lucky and saw the dash smoke comming out from under the steering wheel. I removed the lower trim piece and found a wire that had some insulation rubbed off and was shorting. Clipped and taped it ..Bingo |

There isn't a Mazdatrix injector pressure bleed installed, is there? |

Posted - Jun 04 2012 : 10:43:42 AM Its an ebay cheapo ..but it works I looked at several upgraded units only to see that most don't hold line pressure I'm going to try and move the check valve to just after the injectors and see what happens. In the meantime another issue has come up! I ignored it the first few times but now it's doing it more often. Im blowing the engine fuse which powers the fuel pump. I put a 20 amp fuse in the first time it did this and went a few months and it did it again ..went to a 30 amp and it went a few more months and did it again. both times I was stopped. This last time I was cruising home and the fuse blew and I was able to coast for a block and a half and made it to my driveway. I unerstand it could be several items causing this , relay resistor, alternator, fuel pump,or the circuit opening relay. The last thing I remember doing was switching to a turbo fuel pump so maybe thats whats causing the problem |

Posted - May 19 2012 : 11:23:53 AM Hey AC ..been driving the car daily. She's running as good as ever . The only issue I have is that I have no line pressure after she shuts down and this is after installing two check valves in the line one after the fuel pump and one before the injectors. so cold starts take 2 to 3 attempts. As I mentioned it holds line pressure for two seconds after shut down and then I hear a clicking noise from the fuel pump relay resistor and the pressure drops to zero . so my guess is that the pressure is being released after the injectors. Would you suggest I move the second check valve to after the injectors bunt before the adjustable fuel pressure regulator. . |

Posted - Apr 22 2012 : 10:33:45 AM I did look up the fuel pump in the L-Jetronic manual and indeed, there is a check valve in the pump. So it should hold pressure for quite a while after it stops drunning. The ECU will cut the fuel pump once it no longer receives a signal from the AFM that the engine is running so that part sounds normal. |

Posted - Apr 18 2012 : 08:29:49 AM Hey No problem I know you got a shit load of stuff goin on ..running water thru the engine once a month ....now it starts fine cold and hot! ..got mu 460 injectors back and will set some time to install them. still cant hold line pressure more than a few seconds I hear a clicking noise and pressure drops to zero ..I traced this to the fuel pump relay resistor. Is this normal operation for the relay resistor? |

Posted - Mar 15 2012 : 08:02:58 AM Hi AC ..guess you never got back from your trip?? ..I think I found out why my fuel rail presure drops to zero ..I added a pair of BMW checkvalves in the fuel line one just after the fuel pump and one just before the metal fuel line on the engine after the fuel filter with a gauge in the middle. It holds pressure for two to three seconds after shut down, then I hear a clicking noise and pressure drops to zero ..I traced this to the fuel pump relay resistor. Is this normal operation for the relay resistor, or should I look at the cpu? I know your busy but if you could look at my megasquirt email trail I would truly appreciate it |
