So I wanted to make a variable inductor for a speaker crossover, once was wound the it looked like a secondary for a tesla coil, at the some time I was fiddling aroud with a flyback. So long story short, made it into a tesla coil after a long time, then slung the lot in a box. And ive now got a tesla coil!!
The output is a little purple haze around the wire, it don't work with a topload, definitely no streamers :-(
The specs are:
Unknown turns secondary
Unknown wire guage
Unknown output voltage
Unknown flyback output
Unknown MMC bank value
Unknown operating frequancy
Unknown power input/output
But I do know:
Based on a 555 timer
4 turns primary
Flyback as HV transformer
capacitors are fed a lot more voltage than rated
Gets very hot
Static spark gap
Total cost: £0.00

What do you think of it?
Can I touch the output safely and draw sparks from my fingers?
I made this with no calculations I am amazed and so so happy that it worked.

Ive got a problem with it now, I forgot the diode across the flyback transformer to stop inductive kickback, but when I put a diode in it shorts through stopping it working. The diode does work and it is put the correct way around, Also I have tried a fast switching shottkleys.
Any ideas why? |

Looks neat...You can never safely draw sparks to your fingers. At the minimum, you need to hold a metal object and draw arcs to it instead of your skin. However most Tesla Coil people frown on that since you can get harmonics of 60Hz from other sources and end up hurting yourself because of it. |
