Hi I have an electric scooter of 24v dc motor with 1 speed, so I taught to build a speed controller so I could vary its speed. I have to do this for my project so as it would be not that complicated I have to make electrical brakes also. Can anyone give me an idea of circuit I have to use, cause i found some circuits in the internet but still i dont know what to do. 10x  |

There is a simple two speed contactor controller on this website at http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/cnctcon.asp . It has built in regen braking if you engage a lower speed then you are currently travelling.
There are plenty of PWM controllers on the 'Net if you do a search. There's also a pretty crappy one on this site at http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/motorcon.asp . It works, but not well. I've used it to run a scooter before. It does not have regen braking.
There are two main ways to brake a typical PM DC motor: regen and plug. Plug braking just shorts the two power wires of the motor together during coasting. The motor becomes a generator and the power generated is burned up in it's coils or in an external resistor. This type of braking is easy to set up.
Regen is the other type in which the motor is run as a generator and power returned to the batteries. The contactor controller accomplishes this easily, but it is harder to do with a PWM controller. |
