My friend gave me a nice DC motor to play with. I opened it up and looked inside, but when I tried to put it back together, I broke one of the brushes! I feel really stupid. Does anyone have suggestions about how/where to get a replacement, or is it permanently dead?

Yellow Pages -> "electric motor rebuilders". Most communities of any size have multiple such shops (London has about 1.5 pages of them). Might have the part you need, but you may need ot call around if it's an obscure motor.

It is labled "Airpax" and rated at 18v, but the company's website does not even mention motors. I looked closer at the broken piece, It seems that it is built right into plastic, so I will have to contact the manufacturer and replace the assembly that holds the brushes in place. I will be on vacation for a week so I will wait until I'm back before I do much, if anything, with it.
