Most (some?) solid state magnetos are triggered by a small trigger coil under the main coil. So advancing the whole thing should move the timing. If you have points, then you will have to regap the points as well.

Doesn't that assume a mechanical distributer? I'm not very familiar with lawnmower engines.

I'm not sure what more I can give you. Build a mounting plate for the magneto that has slots so you can slide the assembly along the flywheel to adjust timing advance and retard.

You can adjust the timing if you make and adjustable mount for the magneto coil.

No, the peroxide just provides more oxygen. Think of it as a poor man's nitrous. Remember to put it in the air intake though, and not the fuel. The alcohol is a coolant to keep the extra heat from burning up your engine. Also, cooler engine gives a performance edge with some tuning, as Aaron says.

don't forget. its a lawnmower engine. i can't ajust the timing. would the h2o2 react with the alcohol?

Alcohol cools the intake stream, and has a high resistance to preignition then gasoline. So it's not the alcohol itself that increases power, but the fact that you can run higher compression and more aggressive timing.

Remember to try mixing it with a little peroxide! The peroxide will add more oxygen to the mix and help the alcohol to do its work. Go with low concentrations initially though since you don't want to blow up your engine! Test in baby steps!

I think that it would. I think thats what they use on funny cars. I also think thats whats mixed with RC gas motors

arrrrg! too much tinking! so if i atomze the the alcohol in the carb, it will boost the preformance? better go buy some gasket kits.
wait a minute, i just read that again and hell, i already have those parts! thanx!.
but still, will the alcahol work?

I always thought injecting alcohol into the fuel line gave a slight performance boost. Wasn't that method used on some WWII prop planes? They had a methyl alcohol injection system of some sort. Advice?
Ah, I just did some quick research. Apparently you MIST/INJECT water/alcohol into the carburator. You mix it with the AIR not the fuel.

Peroxide is H2O2 so it has lots of oxygen. This guy recommends mixing it with cheap isopropyl alcohol. I think it would be more along the lines of what you are looking for:

You can buy both Isopropyl alcohol and peroxide very cheaply at your local drugstore. Be careful with this stuff though, as apparently it can cause a substantial (i.e. too much) pressure boost!

You would either have to fill in the combustion chamber (weld it up?) or install a different piston.
