I hope someone can help me. I built the video activated relay posted on this site. Everthing works fine until I split the video signal to run a tv along with the video input to the circut. Even when the tv is not plugged in to power the circut stops working. Is there any changes to the componets that will correct this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If you have an oscilloscope switch the probe to high-impedance and place the probe on the composite video cable coming from the source and make sure the T.V. is plugged into one of the split offs from the splitter. Check the signal level on the scope, then plug the Video Activated Relay into the second split off on the splitter. Check the signal level on the scope again and compare the differences. I suspect the composite video input on your Video Activated Relay has a low impedance which is lowering the signal level coming from the source which the T.V. interprets as "No Signal" since the composite video level it is receiving is below an appropriate minimum threshold the T.V. was designed for.

Solution:
Try a higher value for R1. This will increase the circuit's input impedance and will not dampen the source signal as much. If you increase R1 too much your circuit won't activate the relay.
