Hi all, I came across this circuit from http://www.instructables.com/id/250-to-5000-watts-PWM-DCAC-220V-Power-Inverter/ or http://www.instructables.com/files/orig/F6K/45ZB/FTY4CWZL/F6K45ZBFTY4CWZL.gif The author says it works as a PWM DC-AC inverter based on the SG3524 PWM IC. Please examine it and tell me if it works or not. Thanks. Dennis

I have to say that I haven't tried too hard to find HF inverter schematics, mainly because of my studies.

Since I can't find any documents on HF inverters in my archives it either means I haven't found any or I haven't found any designs worth collecting.

Do you at least have a cheap HF inverter there to take apart?

They are quite simple. Put very simply you have a DC-DC converter and then a modulator modulating the DC-DC converter's DC output into an AC power signal. What I am trying to tell you is that you can design your inverter in these two basic sub-circuits. Design a DC-DC converter (plenty of resources out there) and then I dunno... use a H-Bridge to modulate. My cheap 300W inverter does just what I have explained; it uses a H-Bridge.

Hello johnny,
Well my plan is to make first a Low freq. Type inverter using PWM IC (such as TL494) just to be familiar with PWM ic. Then, I planning to make a HF type to achieve lighter in weight but greater in efficiency.
But, I need to have first to see samples ckt. Pal, do you have some schematics diagram of a HF inverter any kind of topology?
I failed to find in google a descent schematics. I am just hoping you have one

Thanks,

I do have a lot of datasheet of the said IC but I am quite confused.

Hi Juan,
I may have come across a few websites with inverter designs. I only look at them briefly to get a basic idea of how others are making their inverters.

What I am more interested in is different design ideas and circuit topologies which I might use in a future project. I gather all of these little pieces of information, sort them and then pick and choose the best design ideas and make my own new project from them... along with my own design ideas and methods.

Audioguru might remember this. I think it was 2003 or 2004 (I was 13 or 14 years old), I made my first inverter which was a LF type. I don't really know off the top of my head if I have some research laying around for my LF inverter. It was a very simple inverter and wasn't all that efficient, but it was just amazing to hook up to a car battery and hear the 50Hz square wave humming away in the transformer whilst powering Drills, Light Bulbs, a T.V. and a food mixer.

Now it's time for a more useful challenge... A HF inverter which might be used to power sections or the whole house. I am no longer gathering info on LF inverters.

I have 3376 e-books though.
EDIT: But on a number of different topics. Not necessarily on inverters although there could be some in there.

Things are still up in the air with my solar power idea. I am in the middle of my second semester for this year so there is no chance of me dedicating a significant amount time to design a power inverter (or inverters) suitable for the mammoth task of powering our house.

johnny,
I see you are quite busy with your study. That's right.. . "Study first before any girlz. . I mean before anything else"

Good day,
Mr. Pebe, how are you? It is been a long time right that you'd assist me in constructing the msw inverter. I really appreciate it sir.
BTW, I am sorry for editing my post. I just upload the corrected diargram for the sake to whom needed the ckt. I hope they will help them out.

Because when the output of the square-wave inverter is 800W then the current from the battery is about 850W/8V= 106.3A which cannot be switched by a single Mosfet on each side.

For this simple low freq. inverter 75% is apparent.

Yeah that sounds reasonable for that type of inverter.

For powering a whole house off solar... not a good idea with this type of inveter. I would be throwing away a quarter of what I produce.

johnny,
This is the simple Msw inverter that I was talking about. As I said its a Low frequency type. It uses 4017 decade counter to ensure there is no 'shoot through' problem. A simple circuit that can be made by a hobbyist. But, it uses numerous parts.
That is why I am planning to use a single IC to drive mosfets. And you guess it right. . . a 'Low freq. Type' using huge transformer from an old welding machine
:D
