| Realicé el circuito y proporciona 12v a la salida con 6v en la entrada, el problema surgió con diferentes cargas la tensión cae por el piso.
Intenté con un pequeño ventilador de refrigeracion de microprocesador 12v/200mA y la tensión de salida cayó a 7V!!!!
I made the circuit and provides 12v to 6v output at the input, the problem arose with different loads the voltage drops on the floor.
I tried with a small microprocessor cooling fan and 12V/200mA output voltage dropped to 7V!! |

| On any supply voltage above 6V, you risk reverse bias damage to Q1 and Q2 base-emitter junctions. (put fwd biased diodes in their emitter to ground connections) (all multivibrator circuits have this problem) |

| AFAIK L1 is just a choke to stop switching noise from going back to other equipment and causing interference, so i'ts not that critical (unless this device is used with sensitive equipment......or not...)... |

But this circuit doesent seem to be efficient it only charges the capacitor with the 12 V inverted voltage. So this project lackks of amps.
This is useful to low power 12 V appliances. |

you said that the circuit will require about 2A from the 6V supply to provide the full 800mA at 12V... if you use smaller amperage from 2A like 100mA and convert the current within the circuit, you cant get 800mA at 12V?

| I build it and the results are very good, I used the centerring of an old car-amplifier to make the coil and put 80 turns of 0.8mm D3 became 15V and the output is 15-16V with an input from 7.5-15V It gives al little noise ... it works very good with only a few comonents. current is 0.75A |

why would I need to take power from usb port of the laptop and maintenance of an antenna that operates at 12V and consumes only 6W.

| Aleksander, Wook is right. You can't build that circuit. Even if you did change out the inductor it would be impossible. 10Vdc * 20mA =0.2Watts for the input. 12Vdc * 0.36A = 4.32 Watts. for output. Output power cannot be greater than input power. An input of 10Vdc converter at 20mA outputting 12Vdc can output at the very most, 16.7mA. And that is with 100% efficiency. Realistically you can output maybe 13mA. Also, this circuit is not called an inverter. Inverters take a DC voltage and convert it to AC, so I don't know why it is named inverter. The correct name would be a Boost DC Converter. |

Your request is not possible to accomplish. You would have to supply much higher current from the lower voltages.
If the boost circuit were 85% efficient, in order to output 12v @ 360mA, then:
at 10v in, you would need 509mA current
at 5v in, you would need 735mA current
The inductor L1 would need to be changed for the different voltage levels.

| No a variable would not, it will burn out unless industrial type. You will need a night ass resistor or a regulator would be best, with a small heatsink, linked to ignition curcuit.
Oh yeah i live in UK since birth and never heard of a 6volt car system!? |

| Hi, I have an FJ Holden Ute (1955) which has been converted from 6 volt to 12 volt and I would like to use the original fuel gauge. Would anyone be able to tell me what sort of current draw the fuel gauge might draw and would a variable pot do the trip. Can you recommend a converter that might do what I need.
