Gas Prices: Bitch, Whine, Moan...

It's been a while since I've posted anything here. Mainly I've been busy, and have not really had anything to say worth sharing. But this latest trend to complain and whine about the current high fuel prices is really starting to get on my nerves.

Just last Friday I watched a news report containing yet another doom and gloom the-world-is-ending story on the effect of high fuel prices. Never mind the fact that our local news channel has had such a report at least once every two days, and each report gives us no new information as compared to the last. My specific beef is in fact the series of interviews presented in which people complained that they have had to cancel their holiday weekend vacation plans due to the price of fuel.

Huh? Pardon?! I mean, you are cancelling your vacation because gas costs and extra 10 cents per litre as compared to last week?! Just how much of a brain dead useless sack of DNA are you?! You are willing to deny yourself, and quite likely your children, a meaningful and fun vacation because fuel costs have risen slightly? Give your head a shake to hopefully stir up a little logical thought.

Fuel prices have been just above $1.20 per litre here for a while, so to fill a 60 litre tank it will cost a cool $72. Now with last Friday's local cost of $1.35 per litre, that tank now costs a "whopping" $81 to fill. Eighty one freaking dollars! That's an Earth shattering difference of 9 whole dollars. Big freaking deal. Fill your tank twice to go back and forth to the lake (or wherever the complainers go on vacation...maybe bible camp) and you've spent an extra $18.

If you cannot afford to spend an extra $18 over a weekend for fuel, you cannot afford to drive a vehicle. Sell your car now and use the money for food. That's half of what an oil change costs at JiffyLube. That's the price for a family of 4 to have a meal at McDonalds. For $18, you couldn't even go to the movies at normal theatre rates. See what I'm saying here? The difference between the "astronomical" fuel prices of this past weekend and the "just stupidly high" fuel prices of the past few weeks is inconsequential to your travel plans. When you stand in front of a camera to piss, moan and cry about the high fuel prices ruining your life, I hope you watch the report later and see how much of a paint huffing douchebag you really are.

Here's an idea to save a little fuel money; stop spending 20 minutes idling in the drive-through of Tim Horton's every morning for your coffee! And not only would you have saved the fuel consumed by idling, but skip a few coffees and you've now saved that $18 difference in fuel so you can now afford to take your kids somewhere.

Or maybe this has to do with the fact that news today revolves around sensationalism and doom-and-gloom, not any actual story of significance.

(Editor's notes: Maybe it's not the governments job to regulate prices?)

And now gas prices are at a four year low. But even now I find people rushing to get rid of their trucks and SUVs. I love this, as I picked up a black 1988 Chevrolet Camaro RS for $800 in nearly perfect running condition, with minimal to no rust. Thank god, I can stop driving the 2000 Plymouth Voyager I inherited.

Yea sorry i posted a lot of bull when i was here 2-3 years ago, my bad, i guess i was stupid or something but hey, yea. I have to ask, what do most canadians drive? do they drive big SUVs that get terrible mpg, or more efficient cars? my truck only gets 18-20 mpg and gas here is nearly $4 a gallon. and yes i know a gallon is bigger then a litre and yes i know the canadian dollar is higher then the amercian dollar. Im regreting what i said about the US being a great country. its run by to many damn liberalists and such.

(Editor's notes: For a long time, Canadians didn't drive as many large vehicles as those in the US. Over the past few years, the number of large trucks and SUVs has increased a lot. I don't have a problem with that as people can drive whatever they want. Just don't go out and buy a Suburban and then complain about the fuel economy it gets. Like the US, big vehicle sales in Canada are falling dramatically right now. Probably due to high fuel costs and the stigma associated.)
